Legal Intervention for Victims and Empowerment: Through MidPenn`s Victims and Empowerment Legal Intervention (LIVE) project, they are able to offer survivors of domestic and sexual violence additional legal representation in protection orders, family law, housing, and extermination. The LIVE project is currently working in Berks, Blair, Clearfield, Cumberland, Franklin, Fulton, Huntingdon, Lancaster, Lebanon, Schuylkill and York counties. In Franklin, Fulton, Lancaster and York counties, specialized services are available for elderly victims of abuse and financial abuse. We need you to help us ensure the fairness and access to justice that everyone deserves. With your support, we can provide legal assistance in civil matters to the poorest of the poor. MidPenn Legal Services is a 501c(3) nonprofit law firm that receives funding to provide free civil services to low-income residents and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in 18 counties in central Pennsylvania. The types of legal issues MidPenn may face may change depending on their resources: Free, if you`re over 60 and income-dependent, legal help is available for many of the civil and legal issues that older adults often face. We can provide direct representation through a lawyer to protect the benefits and rights of older residents, as well as provide legal advice on matters important to older adults with social or economic needs. Medico-Legal Partnerships: MidPenn currently operates three Forensic Partnerships (MLPs) in its service area. MLPs combine legal defense with healthcare to address the environmental and social factors that affect a patient`s health. Low Income Taxpayer Clinic: MidPenn`s Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC) provides legal advice and representation to low-income taxpayers and taxpayers who speak English as a second language in disputes with the Internal Revenue Service. The types of cases handled include: innocent spouse relief, injured spouse claims, audits, deficiency notices, earned income tax credit appeals, identity theft, liens and deductions, and contractual disputes between employees and the self-employed. The Roanoke Valley Legal Aid Society offers a full range of civil law services to residents of low-income areas, including issues related to housing, family, employment, consumers and family violence. Free legal services are provided to qualified residents of roanoke, salem and Botetourt, Craig, Bedford and Franklin counties and towns. MidPenn uses an asset test to determine financial eligibility. Verified assets include: property, vehicles, cash, certificates of deposit, bank accounts, stocks, and bonds MidPenn has adopted the asset test used by the U.S. Board of Directors.
