While medical education provides candidates with the foundation of the knowledge, attitudes, skills, and behaviors necessary to practice medicine, it is recognized that there are certain inherent requirements necessary to complete the curriculum and eventually earn the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. Review the statements of medical requirements and determine if you may encounter difficulties meeting these requirements. Western Sydney University (WSU) and Charles Sturt University (CSU) will jointly offer a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. The joint medical program is a five-year bachelor`s degree. For some courses, advanced entry (entry into 2nd or 3rd year) is possible. The Rural Entry Admission Scheme (REAS) offers at least 15 places specifically for rural students to study medicine at Western Sydney University. It is open to young people who are currently leaving school, young people who are leaving school and graduates. Clinical learning begins in the first weeks of this hands-on course. During your third, fourth and fifth years, you will broaden your professional skills through full-time clinical and group placements covering the wide range of general, specialist and interprofessional education. These include surgery, medicine, critical care, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, mental health, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, general medicine and contextual alternating medicine. All applicants must meet the minimum academic requirements. By completing a one-year full-time SWAP course, candidates gain the necessary qualifications to enter undergraduate programs at UWS.
The school will take into account the special circumstances of the students when distributing them to rotating hospitals. However, we reserve the right to assign students to hospitals that are not their first choice to ensure that students receive the highest possible quality of instruction. Applicants for entry to Western Sydney University Medicine must take this into account and be prepared to complete their studies at a number of hospitals and healthcare facilities. Minimum ATAR (or EQV): 95.50 unless you meet the residency criteria in Greater Western Sydney, in which case the required ATAR is at least 93.50. If you meet the eligibility requirements for rural entry, the required ATAR is at least 91.50. If you studied medicine at a foreign university, you must apply through the applicant`s General Pathway, or if you are an international student currently (or previously) enrolled in a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent program, you must apply through the applicant`s Internal Pathway. Please note that transfer requests can NOT be guaranteed. “Transfer Applications” will only be accepted from Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents and New Zealand citizens who are currently (or previously) enrolled in a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (or equivalent course, including combined medical degrees) in Australia or New Zealand. If you only studied medicine at a foreign university, you must apply through the General Entry Pathway. The category of transfer requests cannot be applied by any other means.
If it is determined that such an applicant has obtained a place in the MD or MD/BA program through another route, the place will be cancelled. Naturopathy and functional medicine are patient-centered scientific approaches to achieving and maintaining health through natural methods, functional medicine emphasizing biochemical and genetic individuality, and each patient`s diet and nutrition fit well into the full range of naturopathic assessments and treatment modalities. Applicants with a combination of Highers and Advanced Highers/AS and A-levels (or equivalent qualifications) are encouraged to consider early entry in Year 2. While each course has its own specific entry requirements, which are listed on all course pages, there are also minimum academic requirements for admission to a bachelor`s degree program. Applicants who have obtained a Higher National Certificate (HNC) or Higher National Diploma (HND) (from institutions such as SQA and BTEC, etc.) are encouraged to consider advanced entry in Year 2 and Year 3 respectively. Admission to the MD for the 2022 cohort requires an ATAR or the equivalent of at least 95.5 (93.5 for applicants from Western Sydney and rural students) for school leavers or those with incomplete degrees. The course focuses on problem-based learning. The first two years of learning focus on basic sciences (pharmacology, physiology, anatomy, population health and biochemistry), clinical skills and evidence-based medicine. An ePortfolio begins in the first year and spans all five years of the course. Western States University`s Naturopathic Doctor (NMD) prepares students for a holistic, individualized approach to health and healing. Graduates learn to consider the whole person, including diet, lifestyle, environment, genetics, the patient`s physical, mental and emotional health, as well as other factors that affect a patient`s health and well-being. *Applicants with a GPA of 2.9 or less may be reviewed by the Admissions Committee and admission to the program is subject only to approval by the Dean of the College of Naturopathy. A cumulative baccalaureate average of 3.0 or higher is required. Cumulative prerequisite science courses GPA or 2.75 or higher are required. Applicants with current or previous university education will be assessed based on their grade point average. Applicants who have attempted or completed more than one tertiary degree will be assessed on the basis of the degree with the highest cumulative average (minimum 4 subjects or one semester equivalent full-time).
